UI Health's Commitment to Celebrating Disability Pride Month & Disability Employee Awareness Month
At UI Health, we are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates the diversity and contributions of all individuals, including those with disabilities. As part of this commitment, we recognize both Disability Pride Month in July and Disability Employee Awareness Month in October—two important observances that highlight different aspects of the disabled community's experiences and strengths.
Disability Pride Month (July)
Disability Pride Month, held annually in July, celebrates the unique identities and contributions of disabled individuals. This month is a time to embrace and uplift the disabled community, focusing on pride in one's identity, visibility, and self-empowerment. Disability Pride Month emphasizes that disabilities are a natural and valuable part of human diversity, encouraging society to recognize and respect the diverse experiences and perspectives of living with disabilities.
At UI Health, we join the disabled community in celebrating the resilience, achievements, and culture of disabled individuals while also promoting the removal of barriers that continue to impact their everyday lives. Through events, education, and community engagement, we seek to promote disability pride and advocacy.
Disability Employee Awareness Month (October)
Disability Employee Awareness Month, observed in October, focuses on increasing awareness of the importance of inclusion and accessibility in the workplace. This month honors the contributions of disabled employees and highlights the importance of creating work environments where individuals with disabilities can thrive. It is a time to reflect on the challenges disabled employees face while also emphasizing the need for equitable opportunities, accommodations, and support.
UI Health is committed to ensuring that all employees, regardless of ability, have access to the resources, accommodations, and opportunities they need to succeed. We use this month to spotlight the strengths and talents that our disabled workforce brings to the organization while also reaffirming our dedication to fostering a culture of respect, accessibility, and inclusion across all levels.
Both Disability Pride Month and Disability Employee Awareness Month play significant roles in advancing conversations about disability rights, inclusion, and accessibility. While Disability Pride Month celebrates personal and community empowerment, Disability Employee Awareness Month underscores the need for institutional and systemic changes to ensure workplaces are inclusive for all.
By recognizing these two important observances, UI Health remains committed to celebrating and advocating for the disabled community within our workforce and beyond. We strive to build a future where everyone, regardless of their abilities, is seen, heard, and empowered to succeed.
