Orthodontics
An orthodontist is a dentist that specializes in straightening teeth to make sure they fit together properly for an attractive appearance and proper chewing and speaking. The orthodontist of the UI Health Craniofacial Center will help care for your child from birth until late teenage years.
In early years, the orthodontist will monitor your child's facial growth and dental development. During preteen years, some orthodontic treatment might be needed to help guide tooth and jaw development, and when permanent teeth come through, they may require braces. In some cases, the orthodontist will work with the plastic surgeon to position the teeth in preparation for jaw surgery.
Once braces have been removed, if there are any missing or misshapen teeth, the orthodontist will work with the prosthodontist to provide proper spacing for tooth replacement. At the end of the treatment, your child will have well-aligned teeth that function properly and provide a beautiful smile.
